I was the narrative designer and writer behind Fact or Fantasy?, Air New Zealand’s mixed-reality board game experience created in collaboration with Framestore and Magic Leap. Built to spark curiosity about Aotearoa, the game used spatial computing to bring a fantastical 3D map of New Zealand to life, challenging players to decide what was real and what was pure Kiwi imagination.
My role was to craft the overarching narrative, voice and tone for the experience, blending rich storytelling with playful interaction. I wrote the game script, including every “fact or fantasy” question and outcome, designed player prompts and logic flows, and helped define the game’s humorous and distinctly Kiwi personality. The experience had to be intuitive, witty and culturally grounded, all while showcasing the magic of New Zealand through a futuristic lens.
The result was a joyful collision of travel, storytelling and technology, and one of the world’s first branded experiences built on the Magic Leap platform. Fact or Fantasy? helped position Air New Zealand as an innovation leader and reimagined how immersive storytelling could inspire travel.
