Ian Sweeney

Ayrburn

I developed historical storytelling that brought Ayrburn’s rich legacy to life. Working with 4:AM and Winton, I helped uncover and shape the stories behind this extraordinary place. From its 19th-century beginnings as a pioneering Otago farm to its transformation into a world-class food and wine destination.

Drawing on deep historical research and colourful local character, I crafted the stories that connect Ayrburn’s past to its present, creating narrative threads that run through the brand and each of the eight venue identities, from The Woolshed to The Manure Room. These stories weren’t just decorative. They gave meaning to every detail, shaping how the brand speaks, what the spaces evoke, and how visitors feel as they explore.

The result is an experience that feels grounded, intentional and distinctly local. It invites guests not just to dine or drink, but to step into a living story more than 160 years in the making.
