Time Tourists - Virtual Production

I wrote and directed the first short film in Aotearoa to be shot using virtual production. A dystopian sci-fi story, the film explores environmental tourism in a post-apocalyptic future. It was brought to life on a custom-built LED stage in a groundbreaking collaboration between the University of Canterbury, Cerebral Fix, Pixel, Resonate and Screen Canterbury.

Cerebral Fix designed bespoke 3D environments, rendered in real-time by a game engine across 175m² of wraparound LED screens. Pixel delivered an ambitious LED set build: a 270° immersive backdrop. The result was a bold, cinematic experiment in storytelling and innovation, proving what’s possible when film and gaming technologies converge.

Time Tourists has screened at film festivals around the world, was picked up by Canal+ and Rialto Channel, and won Best VFX at the Poppy Jasper Film Festival.
